Paulownia tomentosa

Huge leaves in summer, great for creating a tropical effect. If you're lucky, you might get purple foxglove flowers in summer. My trees have proved hardy here in Cheshire, but they have never flowered even when not pruned. See my notes below re height and pruning. Hardy

Sue's Notes

The young stems of Paulownia may die back in winter, but if, like me you're growing it for foliage then it's best to cut it back to about 5ft in spring anyway, to the felty pairs of new buds showing. It grows another 10 foot each summer.
