Primula vialii

Primula vialii (Vial's Primrose)

A unique looking primula with spikes of crimson buds that open into pale purple flowers in early to mid-summer. A real favourite here. Likes damp soil in summer but must have free-draining soil in winter to survive. Hardy in right conditions. To 30cm.

Sue's Notes about Primula vialii (Vial's Primrose)

We've been experimenting with overwintering conditions for this plant. Our best spot for it is on our gravel scree bed. The soil never really dries out in summer under the gravel mulch, but winter rain runs through it freely.
